Possible hazards relating to bubble making at events and parties. Who may be at risk and the action required to minimise the perceived risk.

Tell children and adults that they are playing with detergent / washing up liquid which is safe but can cause irritation

Advise everyone, especially children to rinse their hands in cold water as soon as they have finished making bubbles
Children must be supervised by an adult. Unattended children make not take part
Eyes stinging, irritation Mainly children Pre school children must be closely supervised by a parent / guardian

Tell children not to put their fingers in their eyes

Advise everyone, especially children to rinse their hands in cold water as soon as they have finished making bubbles
Falling on slippery surface Straff and public Do not do this activity on surfaces, pavements, floors, tiled areas which may become slippery when soapy water is spilt on them. This activity is best suited to a grassed area.

Organisers should provide an enclosed space for this acitivity if it is in a public area
Child being poked in the face with a bubble wand or hit with plastic ring on the end of the ribbon Smaller children Do not allow horse play

Tell children not to swing bubble wands round

Avoid overcrowding
Electrocution Straff and public Do not do this activity near electrical equipment or where there are trailing wires. Bubble making is a very wet activity with lots of water!
