Magic Show | Risk Assessment

Possible hazards relating to setting up and performing a children's magic show at events and parties. Who may be at risk and the action required to minimise the perceived risk.

Do not allow children "back stage"
Electric shock Performer and assistants Carry out visual check on electrical equipment before use. Check for bare wires, faulty plugs etc Portable electrical equipment to be PAT tested annually
Injury caused by falling objects Staff and public Ensure backdrops, tables and props are secure.

Do not allow children or adults into the performance area unless they are invited by the performer
Choking Younger children Don't give small prizes and balloons to children under the age of three
Ruptures Performer and assistants If using balloons inflate with a balloon pump
Tripping over wires and props Performer, assistants and public Ensure there are no trailing wires for people to trip over and that boxes, props etc are stored tidily in a place where they can'y easily be walked into. At public events the organiser should provide a secure enclosed area for performers to work in
