More Face Painting Tips For Your Event

Face painting is always a popular attraction at any event. It gets the kids excited and is guaranteed to attract customers to your store/event. Here are some tips, to get the most out of face painting at your event.

1. Face Painting is a stationary activity which makes it ideal for promotional days, as it brings people to the event. Make sure you place your face painter(s) in a place where they can clearly be seen, e.g. in a marquee at the entrance, or inside the entrance to a store etc.

2. If you are expecting a large number of people, why not hire more than one painter? Generally speaking, each face takes around 5 minutes to complete, and so the more painters you have, the quicker we can get the queue down. Jolly Good Productions can provide up to 4 fully trained, fully ensured and experienced face painters, all of whom take great pride in the quality of their work, displaying professionalism and keeping your customers (and their kids) happy at your event.

3. If your event is outdoors, do consider having a marquee or a gazebo at the ready to house the face painting. This will help shelter both the painters and the children in the queue from our British weather! On clear days it is possible to have the face painting “out in the open”, as long as they have shade, but it is not advisable. Wind could have the face paint kit blowing away and rain gets everything, including your customers, wet!

4. Why not give a theme to the face painting? We at Jolly Good Productions paint a huge range of face paint designs, suitable for all ages (yes, even teenagers and adults!) which can be customised to match and compliment your event day. Whether its particular colours, or perhaps your company logo? Animals, Ultra Violet, beach, monsters and aliens, superheroes, Easter, Christmas, Halloween; the possibilities are endless.

5. Face painting is great advertising. People often come up to us and say they had spotted one of the children we had painted in town and asked where they had it done. Why not make up some stickers which we can hand out to the children with your company logo on it? This is a great idea to get more people coming and seeking you out!

Your comments or questions are welcome. Regards from Natasha Wood.

Royal Quays Star Wars Piece

Star Wars took on a whole new meaning for Professional Face Painter Hazel Wood who was booked as part of the Easter shopping centre entertainment at the Royal Quays Outlet Centre, North Tyneside. The event drew in large numbers of visitors and as Hazel was the only Face Painter at the event she felt just a little under seige with long queues every day. Face Painting is always a popular form of children’s entertainment and as Hazel’s work is of an exceptionally high standard customers are prepared to wait in line even on cold and windy days.

The Star Wars characters were in great demand and thousands of photos must have been taken over the three day promotion.

The event was a huge success and it seems likely that Star Wars will return to North Tyneside again in the not too distant future.

Face Painting | Health And Safety

Face Painting has become incredibly popular at events, promotions and parties. It is one of the first things people think about when the subject of children’s entertainment is mentioned. When ever you go to any kind of public event or gathering you  will inevitably see children with their faces painted.

Face painting involves the application of water based paint onto the skin of the face using a brush or sponge to produce a pleasing picture or design.

There are a number of  Health and Safety concerns that are often overlooked:

Face Painting necessitates working close to the eyes of the subject, usually a child.

Skin can be very sensitive especially that of younger children.

The same brushes and sponges are likely to be used repeatedly from child to child.

The Face Painter will be using the same water, containers and paints for the duration of the event.

What are the risks?

  • Damage to the eyes by a paint brush or ingress of glitter etc
  • Damage to the skin by use of unsuitable materials
  • Skin infection due to lack of proper hygiene
  • Contamination, cross infection from one child to another
  • Allergic reaction
  • Damage to delicate, sensitive young skin

These are very real risks and anyone who is going to be Face Painting on members of the public should be fully aware of these risks and know how to work safely. Just as people in the catering industry require a food hygiene certificate so to should face painters be properly trained.

Face Painting is often performed by volunteers, staff members or friends who are helping out. They may have “done it before” or are prepared “to have a go” or perhaps someone has “shown them what to do”  There are also people who decide to do Face Painting as a side line to earn some extra cash. In most cases none of these people have undergone any kind of proper training.

We have always placed great emphasis on Health and Safety. The training courses we run are thorough and do cover every aspect of  Health and Safety as it applies to Face painting. Our standards are very high and we are confident that our students can confidently work with the public with the absolute minimum of risk if they follow the guidelines and apply the methods we teach.

Unfortunately there is no way to differentiate between Face Painters when making a booking. Members of FACE ( The Face Painting Association ) do have to pass an entry test and they are assessed before being permitted to join. Employing a FACE member is therefore highly recommended.

What to do now

If you are an event organiser or manager then do seriously consider investing in proper training for your staff before allowing them to engage in Face Painting.

Also, be discerning when engaging the services of a face painter. Make sure you engage the services of a professional who has the right equipment, is experienced and properly trained.

If you are an individual who already face paints or is considering doing so then you are strongly advised to get some expert tuition. Even if you are self taught and have been Face Painting for some time you will benefit from undergoing structured training.

Health and Safety matters!
