West Witton Gala | Wensleydale

The sun shone over Wensleydale on Sunday 22nd August. It was a bit breezy but very warm. A perfect day for the annual West Witton Gala. The gala field is on high ground adjacent to the main road and has perfect views down the dale to Leyburn and beyond. It’s a wonderful community event with a BBQ, cakes and refreshments plus a variety of entertainment throughout the afternoon. There were children’s races, a dog show, falconry displays, side stalls, bouncy castles and of course Jolly Good Productions Punch and Judy and Face Painting.

In addition to the regulars from West witton there were quite a few visitors enjoying the atmosphere and joining in with the fun.

It’s definitely making a note in your diary for next year!

Northfields Shopping Centre, Birmingham, Fun Day

What a lovely day we had in Birmingham performing at the Northfields Shopping Centre. Hazel and I were booked as part of the summer children’s entertainment programme with one of our puppet shows and face painting. We arrived in plenty of time to get set up in the centre of the mall and were soon kept busy. I did four shows with lots of children ( and adults ) watching at each time. There was as usual lots of audience participation and the youngsters joined in enthusiastically throughout. The photo below shows the set of The King Custard Puppet Show. It’s quite large but looks great in a shopping centre. Hazel sets up to one side so that those children waiting to have their faces painted can also see the puppets in action. Hazel had lots of compliments on the very high quality of her work. Its very satisfying to knwo that your endeavours are appreciated. Although we had a long drive home we both felt that the day had been a great success and we look forward to being invited back again in the future.

Monkwearmouth Museum Gets Thumbs Up From Mr Punch

Mr Punch and his entourage visited Monkwearmouth Museum in Sunderland yesterday and performed four shows to appreciative audiences of children and adults.

Mr Punch enjoyed his visit as it reminded him of the days when people used to flock to the English seaside for day trips and vacations. The museum is housed in a former railway station. The building itself is very grand as was the style in the victorian era when it was conceived. There are many exhibits to show what life was like in the area in years gone by. There is even a fully restored ticket office to show what the station would have been like in Edwardian times.

The museum is designed to be child friendly and there are various interactive displays and a playroom too.

In addition to the Punch and Judy Show there was also face painting by Katrina Wood. This was very popular and there was a queue all afternoon. There were lots of oohs and aahs at the stunning faces Katrina painted and quite a few parents enquiring about Katrina’s availability for face painting at  parties in the Sunderland / Newcastle area. This is no problem as Katrina is based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Mr Punch’s verdict : The museum is interesting, educational and fun with friendly and helpful staff. Definitely worth a visit.

Hartlepool will greet the ships, which will have sailed from Kristiansand in Norway on the second and final leg of the race.

More Face Painting Tips For Your Event

Face painting is always a popular attraction at any event. It gets the kids excited and is guaranteed to attract customers to your store/event. Here are some tips, to get the most out of face painting at your event.

1. Face Painting is a stationary activity which makes it ideal for promotional days, as it brings people to the event. Make sure you place your face painter(s) in a place where they can clearly be seen, e.g. in a marquee at the entrance, or inside the entrance to a store etc.

2. If you are expecting a large number of people, why not hire more than one painter? Generally speaking, each face takes around 5 minutes to complete, and so the more painters you have, the quicker we can get the queue down. Jolly Good Productions can provide up to 4 fully trained, fully ensured and experienced face painters, all of whom take great pride in the quality of their work, displaying professionalism and keeping your customers (and their kids) happy at your event.

3. If your event is outdoors, do consider having a marquee or a gazebo at the ready to house the face painting. This will help shelter both the painters and the children in the queue from our British weather! On clear days it is possible to have the face painting “out in the open”, as long as they have shade, but it is not advisable. Wind could have the face paint kit blowing away and rain gets everything, including your customers, wet!

4. Why not give a theme to the face painting? We at Jolly Good Productions paint a huge range of face paint designs, suitable for all ages (yes, even teenagers and adults!) which can be customised to match and compliment your event day. Whether its particular colours, or perhaps your company logo? Animals, Ultra Violet, beach, monsters and aliens, superheroes, Easter, Christmas, Halloween; the possibilities are endless.

5. Face painting is great advertising. People often come up to us and say they had spotted one of the children we had painted in town and asked where they had it done. Why not make up some stickers which we can hand out to the children with your company logo on it? This is a great idea to get more people coming and seeking you out!

Your comments or questions are welcome. Regards from Natasha Wood.

Jolly Good Fun At RAF Waddington

The annual Air Show at RAF Waddington is massively popular with the general public. Needless to say a huge ammount of planning and hard work is required by many people to ensure that everything is in place and runs smoothly on the day. The RAF always do a fantastic job thanks to the commitment and dedication from every member of the team. In the run up to the big day everyone is affected, not just the airmen and women but the service families too.

Once the dust has settled and things are back to normal the RAF have their own party for family and friends to relax and enjoy themselves. This usually takes place a week after the Air Show.

Jolly Good Productions were delighted to be invited to provide children’s entertainment once again this year. Fortunately Natasha had just returned from working in France and so all five of us were available.

We had a great day, there is always a friendly atmosphere and the RAF always make you feel welcome.

We did a varied programme of entertainment for the kids including Punch and Judy, Face Painting, Stilt Walking, Magic Show, Circus Workshop and Bubble Making.

There was also a company providing bouncy castles, sumo wrestling and a mechanical bull machine.

It was a lovely hot day and we all enjoyed an ice cream from the ice cream van before packing up at the end.

Great Yorkshire Show Is Expensive!

Hazel has just spent three very busy days this week,  Face Painting at the Great Yorkshire Show in  Harrogate in North Yorkshire. I haven’t been myself but Hazel says it’s a fantastic event. There is so much to see and lots of entertainment. Naturally she gets to speak to lots of people, particularly parents waiting for their kids to have their faces painted. The one thing many parents were complaining  about was the price of the tickets to get in. Unfortunately it doesn’t stop there because food and refreshments are pricey as are the kids rides too. So for the average family a visit to the Great Yorkshire Show can be a very expensive day out. I’m sure that everyone who went to the Show this year had a brilliant time. Lets hope the ticket prices don’t go up again next year.

The cost of a ride on the Big Wheel was £4.50 for adults and £3.50 per child.

Pants In The Park In Gateshead 2010

This wonderful annual event takes place throughout the UK. For the past couple of years Jolly Good Productions have supplied Face Painting at the Gateshead  extravaganza.

Did you know that 1 in 2 men will be affected by prostate diseases at some point in their lives? Pants in the Park heps raise funds for vital research raising  much needed awareness about prostate diseases and educating  health care professionals.

‘Pants The Park’ is a 5km fun run which aims to be a great day out for all the family and everyone involved. It doesn’t matter how you get round the course. You could leap , bounce , crawl , elegantly skip  or simply walk at your own pace.

The ideas is to make a hero of yourself by dressing up ‘Superman style’ with decorated pants on the outside of your clothes. There are prizes for the best pants so the more outrageous and colourful the better!

There is  plenty to do before and after you pant round the 5km. Team Pants from Prostate UK are on hand every step of the way to help everyone  make the most of their fundraising and the day itself with organised music, face painting and warm up sessions.

I think Hazel will remember this years event because it rained heavily and she was in a leaky gazebo so she had fun and games of her own trying to keep her paints dry and stop her table from flooding. She did however manage to take a few photos, hope you enjoy them.
