Hartlepool will greet the ships, which will have sailed from Kristiansand in Norway on the second and final leg of the race.

The town already has good links with the tall ships and their captains after almost 40 vessels visited Hartlepool en route to Newcastle Gateshead, who hosted the event in 2005.

During their stay, the ships will be berthed in Hartlepool Quays, and there will be a large number of special events organised in the run up and during the the huge celebrations in August 2010. At the heart of the festivities will be over 4,000 young people from over 20 countries.

The Creepy Crawly Show | Children’s Entertainment

I came across the Creepy Crawly Show at an event recently. This company bring a selection of mini beasts to your birthday party or event. The children get to see a variety of different small animals, reptiles and insects close up. Some can even be handled. The keepers are on hand to answer questions and talk about the exhibits. Needless to say most little boys will love it although some girls may be put off by some of the insects? I noticed that lots of adults were interested and enjoying the displays too so it’s not just children’s entertainment. For more information about hiring the Creepy Crawly Show for a Birthday Party or Event call 0151 327 5888.

Jolly Good Fun At RAF Waddington

The annual Air Show at RAF Waddington is massively popular with the general public. Needless to say a huge ammount of planning and hard work is required by many people to ensure that everything is in place and runs smoothly on the day. The RAF always do a fantastic job thanks to the commitment and dedication from every member of the team. In the run up to the big day everyone is affected, not just the airmen and women but the service families too.

Once the dust has settled and things are back to normal the RAF have their own party for family and friends to relax and enjoy themselves. This usually takes place a week after the Air Show.

Jolly Good Productions were delighted to be invited to provide children’s entertainment once again this year. Fortunately Natasha had just returned from working in France and so all five of us were available.

We had a great day, there is always a friendly atmosphere and the RAF always make you feel welcome.

We did a varied programme of entertainment for the kids including Punch and Judy, Face Painting, Stilt Walking, Magic Show, Circus Workshop and Bubble Making.

There was also a company providing bouncy castles, sumo wrestling and a mechanical bull machine.

It was a lovely hot day and we all enjoyed an ice cream from the ice cream van before packing up at the end.

Lazer Quest

Laser Quest is an exciting attraction which is ideal for Corporate Entertainment or Family Fun Days, Shows and Galas. The action takes place inside an inflatable maze which is designed to look like a space ship. There are nine interconnecting pods which the players move freely between. It’s dark inside except for special effects lighting. Each player is armed with a laser gun ( harmless of course ) and a smoke machine creates a mist to further add to the atmosphere. The guns fire a lazer beam and hits are recorded when you shoot an oponent. There are sound effects too. With up to twelve players inside at any one time the action can be fast and furious.

Laser Quest is ideal entertainment for children, teenagers or adults.

Magic And Monkey Business At Hartlepool Rovers

The term “monkey business” means fooling around or mischief and some might say that my children’s Magic Show has lots of monkeying around in it, mainly at the expense of my good self of course.

It was a pleasure to be invited to entertain children at Hartlepool Rovers Rugby Club. The Magic Show went really well and I couldn’t help noticing various references to “monkey business” in some of the pictures and exhibits on display in the clubhouse.

There is a very well known story going back to the Napoleonic Wars when a monkey which had fallen from a passing ship was washed ashore on the beach in Hartlepool. The local people were convinced that the monkey was a French spy and it was summarily hanged.

The story of the monkey has become a long standing joke and Hartlepool folk are sometimes  referred to as “monkey hangers” just as those from Redcar are called “sand scratchers” and those from Skelton or Brotton might be called ” Wolleybacks”

I like the story about the monkey. I’m sure it’s pure fiction and if I lived in Hartlepool I’d probably make the most of it. I’m sure it would earn me a pint or two in my travels.

There is a great tradition of rugby in Hartlepool and I am told there are currently five rugby clubs although I only know the names of three of them. Can anyone give me the full list?

As an ex rugby player myself I found it interesting looking at the clubs trophies and memorobilia.

I am looking forward to my next visit to Hartlepool. If you know any one looking for children’s entertainment with plenty of monkey business give me a call:

Don’t Loose Your Marbles

This is a silly party game that you can use for children’s entertainment or with adults.  All you need are some marbles and some forks.

Each player has a fork and a marble and has to balance the marble on the fork and then cross the room without dropping the marble.

This is very difficult to do and quite entertaining for the spectators. Great as a quick party game or as an ice breaker for a few minutes of fun. I call the game ” Don’t Loose Your Marbles “

Puppet King For Wolverhampton

Visitors to the Manders Shopping Centre in Wolverhampton had a special treat recently when Jolly Good Productions staged their latest Puppet Show. The set of a fairy castle appeared in the centre of the mall and crowds gathered to watch the performances. The story about is about King Custard and features a cast of interesting characters and lots of audience participation. The show was enjoyed by children of all ages and some came back several times to watch again.

In addition to the puppets there was also fantastic  face painting by Hazel.

Jolly Good Productions are based in Yorkshire but provide children’s entertainment for shopping centres and at corporate events throughout the UK.

Royal Quays Star Wars Piece

Star Wars took on a whole new meaning for Professional Face Painter Hazel Wood who was booked as part of the Easter shopping centre entertainment at the Royal Quays Outlet Centre, North Tyneside. The event drew in large numbers of visitors and as Hazel was the only Face Painter at the event she felt just a little under seige with long queues every day. Face Painting is always a popular form of children’s entertainment and as Hazel’s work is of an exceptionally high standard customers are prepared to wait in line even on cold and windy days.

The Star Wars characters were in great demand and thousands of photos must have been taken over the three day promotion.

The event was a huge success and it seems likely that Star Wars will return to North Tyneside again in the not too distant future.
